The Bihar government is planning to introduce artificial intelligence-based technology to increase sugarcane production, with officials holding discussions with experts from Vasantdada Sugar Institute, Pune, Zee News reported.
Additional Chief Secretary K. Senthil Kumar chaired a review meeting on Wednesday with representatives of the institute and other experts to discuss the use of modern technology in sugarcane cultivation. Experts at the meeting said that the use of AI-based innovations could help raise sugarcane yields by 30 to 40 percent.
The meeting was organised to decide the next steps after the department recently held a seminar on sugarcane technology. During the discussion, officials and experts focused on how AI could support irrigation management, seed treatment, crop monitoring and overall productivity.
Experts said modern tools could help make sugarcane farming more precise and profitable. They noted that AI systems can analyse data on soil conditions, moisture levels and crop health, allowing farmers to receive timely advice and use resources more efficiently while lowering costs.
Officials also discussed the possibility of launching a pilot project in Bihar based on the experience of the Vasantdada Sugar Institute. The Additional Chief Secretary said the government would work with experts and institutions to prepare a plan for adopting modern technology to strengthen sugarcane production in the state.
