Sugarcane crushing for Maharashtra’s 2025–26 season are in full swing, with operations gradually ramping up across the state. As per the latest data from the Sugar Commissionerate, 195 sugar mills started sugarcane crushing as of January 05, 2026.
So far, mills in the state have crushed 602.61 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugarcane, producing 532.27 lakh quintals of sugar. The average sugar recovery rate currently stands at 8.83%.
Of the 195 mills that are actively crushing, 97 belong to the cooperative sector and 98 are privately owned. The Kolhapur division continues to outperform other regions in both sugar output and recovery rates.
Kolhapur: A total of 37 mills are operational, crushing 131.75 LMT of cane and achieving the state’s highest recovery rate of 10.41%. The division has produced 137.15 lakh quintals of sugar.
Pune: The Pune division has 30 operational mills. They have crushed 140.46 LMT of cane with a recovery rate of 9.1%, resulting in 127.75 lakh quintals of sugar.
Solapur: Despite having the largest number of active mills at 45, Solapur has crushed 131.09 LMT of cane, recording a recovery rate of 7.93%.
By this date in the previous season, 199 mills had begun operations, crushing 406.3 LMT of cane with a recovery rate of 8.66%.
