In an announcement on May 28, the Food Ministry allocated a monthly sugar quota of 23 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for June 2025, which is lower than the quota allocated for June 2024.
In June 2024, the government had allocated a monthly sugar quota of 25.50 LMT for domestic sale. For May 2025, the allocation of sugar quota was 23.5 LMT.

According to market experts, with the announcement of 23 LMT, the market sentiments are expected to remain bearish. Last year, in June, sugar consumption was 24.10 LMT.
