Bengaluru: Farmers fear that the coronavirus pandemic may impact agricultural activities in Karnataka even though they are exempted from the current lockdown.
Despite the outbreak of the pandemic last year, the state recorded an all-time high of 153 lakh metric tonnes of food output. Now, Covid is spreading from cities to rural areas, where farming take place on large scale and it may impact the activities.
The farming community is also facing a shortage of labourers as they have migrated to their native villages fearing the Covid crisis. Growers of commercial crops largely rely on migrants.
However Agricultural minister B C Patil has stated that there should not be any restriction on agricultural activities.
