Ambedkarnagar, Uttar Pradesh: The steps taken by the Uttar Pradesh government to low down the pending cane dues is showing result now. Many sugar mills across the have expedited the sugarcane payment fearing action from the sugarcane department.
Giving relief to 6,000 sugarcane farmers, the Akbarpur sugar mill has made a payment of Rs 8 crore. Mill says that in the upcoming days remaining dues will also be paid soon.
In the current ongoing season, the mill had started the operation on November 24. Initially, the mill set the target of crushing 105 quintal sugarcane, but later on, it had been reduced to 85 lakh quintals. Mill concluded its season on 23 March by crushing 84 lakh 82 thousand quintals of sugarcane.
Farmers in many sugar-producing districts in the state said that due to non-payment of dues, they are suffering from a financial crisis. Whereas, sugar mills claim, due to low sales, they are incapable to clear the arrears.
