Thanjavur: Sugarcane farmers organised a demonstration at Sarukkai village in Papanasam taluka protesting against the delay in cane payment by a private sugar mill located in Thirumandankudi and transport charges from the last six years.
According to the news report published in Thehindu.com, the farmers have alleged that the sugar mill had cheated them by obtaining bank loan in the name of the farmers registered as suppliers of canes to the mill.
The farmers tried to acquire over 100 acres of dry land owned by the sugar mill at Sarukkai.
The police officials and the revenue officers pacified the situation and assured them that the issue will be sorted out through a tripartite meeting in two weeks.
