Review meeting of DMs of cane districts held to ensure smooth operation of cooperative sugar mills

A review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary, Sugar Industry and Cane Development Department/Chairman, Co-operative Sugar Factories Federation Ltd., Shri Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy, with district magistrates of Cane districts through V.C. on various points required for the smooth operation of cooperative sugar mills. In the coming crushing season 2021-22, sugar mills of western U.P. will begin crushing operations from October 20th, 2021. For this, instructions were given to the District Magistrates in the review meeting to inspect sugar mills about their preparations. Cane price payment is the top priority of the Government, so before starting the crushing season, it was also directed in the meeting to clear the balance Cane dues.

In the virtual review meeting, the Chairman of Cooperative Sugar Mills, Shri Bhoosreddy directed the District Magistrates that being the administrator of the Cooperative Sugar Mills located in their districts, they have an important role in controlling the budget of the Cooperative Sugar Mills, so for the smooth operation of the crushing season judicious use of the allocated budget for machinery repair and maintenance should be ensured. Along with this, instructions were also given to ensure that cooperative sugar mills should run on full capacity during the crushing season.

During the review meeting, the status of cane price payment of the last crushing season, date of commencement of crushing season 2021-22 and action plan etc. were also discussed. Apart from this, District Magistrates were directed to resolve the problems between banks and sugar mills so that the drawing power generated from the hypothecated stock of sugar can be properly utilized by sugar mills. In the meeting, a detailed review was also done on the establishment issues, like number of staff in comparison to sanctioned strength, the status of daily wages/contractual/outsourcing staff etc. remain the main points of discussion.

In the review meeting, arrangements being made for the storage and safety of sugar and environmental pollution control and the operations relevant under the guidelines set by the N.G.T. were also reviewed. Detailed instructions were also given by the Chairman regarding the procedure and fixing rates for on contract workers in the mills, and to stop the increase in transportation rates due to cartelization of sugarcane transport contractors. The status of disposal of the cases pending in the Hon’ble Courts and directed to take cooperation from the Civil Defense, NCC, Fire Department for safety and protection in relation to the emergent situation.

At the end of the review meeting, the Additional Chief Secretary directed all the District Magistrates and General managers of sugar mills and departmental officers to ensure that the crushing season 2021-22 should be a model crushing season, so that the trust of the cane farmers of the state remain intact towards the cooperative sugar mills. In the review meeting Managing Director, Cooperative Sugar Mills factories federation ltd., Ramakant Pandey, Joint Managing Director, R.P. Singh, Additional Cane Commissioner/Managing Director, Ganna Sangh, Y.S. Malik, Additional Cane Commissioner/Managing Director Seed Corporation, V.K. Shukla, Chief Manager, Project Sunil Kumar Ohri, Chief Manager, Technical, Vinod Kumar and Chief Manager, Finance, Atul Khanna from Headquarter were present.
