Multan: The government will provide cash prizes worth Rs 2.2 million to the top three sugarcane producers in Punjab, said an agriculture spokesman.
The government is undertaking different activities through a five-year national production project to encourage farmers to adopt modern technology to increase their productivity.
The government will provide a subsidy of Rs 30,000 per acre to cane farmers on demonstrations while Rs 5,000 per acre on Sep-sown sugarcane crops and inter-cropping and for the promotion of Chip Bud technology.
The competitions at the provincial level will help maintain a competitive level. The farmer producing the highest cane would get Rs 1 million prizes while the second and third position holders would get Rs 700,000 and Rs 500,000 respectively.
A top producer at the district level will get a Rs 300,000 cash prize and second and third positions will get Rs 150,000 and Rs 75000 respectively.
