Amritsar district reports arrival of 71,000 metric tonnes of wheat in single day

Amritsar: The mandis in the Amritsar district reported a record arrival of wheat crop of around 71,003 metric tonnes on Tuesday as the harvesting of the crop is at peak, reports Tribune India.

With this, a total of 3,38,708 MT of crop has reached the markets out of which nearly 3,31,925 MT has already been procured. The government has purchased a total of 3, 10,198 MT of wheat while the private buyers have purchased 21,727 MT.

At this rate of harvesting, almost all the wheat grown in the district will be harvested within this week, said the district agricultural officials. Chief Agricultural Officer Dr Jatinder Singh Gill said, “The harvesting would be completed within the next few days if the weather remains favourable.”

Over 50% of the area under wheat crop has been harvested already, said the officials of the Agriculture Department.
