Islamabad: The federal government has asked the provincial governments of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to fix the quantity of sugar for possession in the bordering district to keep a check on the smuggling of sugar.
According to an official source, the federal cabinet has issued a circular to these governments to fix the quantity of sugar a person can possess in the districts bordering Afghanistan and Iran.
There is a huge shortage of sugar and other commodities in the country and they are being smuggled to these neighbouring countries as there is no presence of the Pakistan customs in the border areas.
The anti-smuggling powers have been granted to other government agencies and now the federal government authorizes the provincial government to control smuggling by enforcing these laws.
