Mysuru: Farmers have urged the state government to procure rice from local producers instead of purchasing it from other states, reports The Hindu.
Kurubur Shantha Kumar, president of Karnataka Sugarcane Cultivators’ Association has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to procure rice and millets from local farmers instead of approaching other states or the Centre.
The state had accused the Centre had refused to release additional rice to Karnataka which has affected the implementation of the Anna Bhaiya 10 kg free rice programme.
The CM had tweeted accusing the Centre of discontinuing the sale of rice and wheat through an open market sale scheme and said that he would write to other states and procure rice from them.
Instead of this CM can procure rice from local farmers, said Shanthakumar.
