Rejecting the appeal of the sugar Miller’s to start milling earlier in August, the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) is firm on starting milling in September, reports Bworldonline.
“Starting milling in September will help farmers increase their income as the cane will be more mature by that time increasing yield,” said SRA.
Pablo Luis S. Azcona, the acting administrator, of SRA, said, the main aim is to increase output to become self-sufficient in the sugar sector.
The National Federation of Sugarcane Planters, the Panay Federation of Sugarcane Farmers, and the Confederation of Sugar Producers Associations had appealed to the SRA to start milling in August as it was done last year.
They stated that the milling had begun earlier last year owing to a shortage of sugar and delaying milling this season would overripe the cane.
As per Azcona, milling in September is the usual process and is based on scientific and weather patterns.
