Nashik: Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Speaker Neelam Gorhe has called for the organization of special camps to register sugarcane and domestic workers so they can benefit from government welfare schemes. During a review meeting with district officials at the government rest house, she stressed the importance of speedy registration to ensure access to education and social security benefits, reported The Times of India.
“Health camps should be held for these workers,” Gorhe said, adding that steps must be taken to provide them with health and accident insurance coverage.
She also recommended that 3% of the district’s annual plan funds reserved for the Women and Child Welfare Department be used for preventive measures against violence toward women. “While support is available for victims through the ‘Manodhairya’ scheme, the district plan funds should be used to offer immediate assistance when needed,” she stated.
Gorhe also pushed for better child protection, suggesting the creation of child-friendly police stations at five different locations. “A formal proposal should be submitted to establish these police stations,” she said.
Highlighting the importance of support systems for women, she called for the strengthening of existing ‘Bharosa’ (trust) cells and the introduction of ‘Online Bharosa’ services in areas where such facilities are currently unavailable. “Women police officers should be trained not just in technical matters but also in providing empathetic, people-centered service,” she said. “Home visits should be made to counsel women who are facing difficulties.”
To further promote local tourism, Gorhe suggested appointing a nodal officer to address complaints from tourists visiting Ahilyanagar and nearby areas. This, she said, would help create a positive impression of the district.
