Khatima, Uttarakhand: Sugarcane growers are strongly asking for a higher price for their sugarcane produce. They say the cost of growing and moving their crops has gone up a lot, but their earnings have not, reported Amar Ujala.
During a recent meeting at a local hotel in in Khatima, farmers shared their worries about the financial difficulties they face. They explained that from planting to taking the sugarcane to the mills, expenses are very high. Farmers stressed that the current price they receive for their sugarcane does not cover these significant costs, leaving many in tough financial spots.
To improve their livelihoods, the farmers have asked the government to set the price of sugarcane at Rs 450 per quintal for the next harvesting period.
After their meeting, a group of farmers went to the local administrative office. They handed over a written request for the Chief Minister through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Ravindra Bisht, explaining their demands. Farmers present at the meeting included Prakash Tiwari, Manjinder Singh Bhullar, Bhagwant Singh, Manmohan Singh, Balwinder Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, and Manjeet Singh.
