Indian government permits export of 25,000 tonnes pharma grade sugar

The Indian government on June 17 permitted the export of 25,000 metric tonnes (MTs) of pharma-grade sugar per financial year under the restricted category. This approval will be granted only to bonafide pharma exporters.

According to a notification from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), “The export of pharma grade sugar, up to a total of 25,000 MTs per financial year, shall be permitted to bonafide pharma exporters against a restricted export authorisation.”

Pharma-grade sugar is a high-quality product manufactured by following specific standards. Additionally, the DGFT issued a separate trade notification on June 13 announcing the launch of the “Source from India” feature on the Trade Connect ePlatform.

This platform serves as a comprehensive resource hub for international trade, connecting stakeholders such as Indian Missions Abroad, Export Promotion Councils, EXIM Bank, the Department of Commerce, and the DGFT. The new feature offers international buyers a centralized reference point to identify reliable Indian exporters.

“The feature allows exporters to create their own micropages where they can provide their product details as well as the credentials of their entity. Micropages of the exporters are publicly made visible on ‘Source from India’ page of Trade Connect ePlatform (https://www.trade.gov.in/pages/sourcefrom-india) once approved. To start with, Three-, Four- and Five-star Manufacturer exporters had been previously invited to create their ‘Source from India’ micropages on a pilot basis.,” the notice stated.

Indian Missions Abroad have also been informed to use the “Source from India” feature as a reference tool when assisting foreign buyers seeking Indian suppliers for various products.
