Bazpur, Uttarakhand: Congress workers staged a protest and submitted an 11-point memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister to SDM Dr. Amrita Sharma. The demands included a call not to give Bazpur sugar mill under the PPP mode, immediate restoration of land ownership rights to 5,838 acres of land across 20 villages, immediate payment of pending wages to sugar mill workers, and the commencement of the sugar mill in the first week of November.
Led by State President of Kisan Congress Harminder Singh Laddi, Congress workers gathered at the Ramleela Ground. From there, they marched in protest, raising slogans, and later held a symbolic sit-in at the SDM office.
Addressing the gathering, Laddi reminded that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had previously assured farmers of action, yet the land rights issue in the 20 villages remains unresolved. He demanded that the sugarcane price be set at Rs 500 per quintal, and that electricity bills for farmers’ tube wells be waived, according to the news report by Amar Ujala.
Laddi warned that if the state government fails to take these issues seriously, a large-scale state-wide protest will be launched under the leadership of the Leader of the Opposition.
Among those present at the protest were Kisan Congress District President Navdeep Singh Kang, Congress Block President Pawan Sharma, City President Satyawan Garg and other party workers.
