Mysuru: Mandya’s State-owned Mysore Sugar Company, popularly known as Mysugar, has set a target of crushing 4.5 lakh metric tonnes of sugarcane during the 2025-26 crushing season, reported The Hindu.
The announcement was made by Mandya MLA P. Ravikumar during a ceremony to light the factory boiler on Monday, officially marking the start of this year’s operations.
Mysugar, which had remained non-operational for several years, was revived in 2023 with ₹50 crore in financial aid from the State government. In its comeback year, 2023-24, the factory processed 2.41 lakh metric tonnes of sugarcane, producing 1.68 lakh quintals of sugar.
The factory had aimed to crush 2.5 lakh metric tonnes during 2024-25 and managed to process about 75,000 tonnes by September 2024.
Looking ahead to the 2025-26 season, Ravikumar said the factory is preparing for a significant ramp-up in production. He also shared that the Chairman of Mysugar, C.D. Gangadhar, had submitted a proposal to the State government requesting Rs 28 crore as working capital to support factory operations.
Mr. Ravikumar stressed that the factory’s future should not be assessed purely on the basis of profit and loss. “The factory needs time and opportunity to make a turnaround,” he said, expressing confidence that the government-owned facility, currently operating at a loss, will eventually recover and become profitable.
Mysugar Chairman C.D. Gangadhar, Deputy Commissioner Kumar, and other officials were also present at the event.
