Koppal, Karnataka: Residents from Muddaballi, New Gondabal, and Old Gondabal villages have raised objections to proposal to set up a sugar factory near Muddaballi in Koppal taluk. After obtaining the necessary government approvals for the project, it is currently seeking a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Gondabal gram panchayat. In response, the Panchayat Development Officer issued a public notice, inviting objections from the affected parties.
On Tuesday, villagers from the three communities staged a impromptu protest outside the Muddaballi gram panchayat office, voicing their opposition to the industrial project. They expressed concerns about the environmental and social impact of such developments in the area and cited the recent large-scale protest against the proposed Baldota Steel Factory, which was led by Abhinava Gavisiddeshwara Swamiji of Gavi Mutt, reported The Times of India.
Protesters highlighted ongoing challenges faced due to existing industrial units and said: “We do not wish for a sugar factory to be built close to our villages under any circumstances. Hundreds of objection petitions were already lodged with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board regarding this issue. If the company does not comply, we will be compelled to pursue legal action.”
