Bihar farmers show strong response to new sugarcane mechanisation scheme

Patna: Farmers across Bihar have shown a highly positive response to the state government’s newly launched Sugarcane Mechanisation Scheme for 2025–26, with more than 900 applications received on the very first day, reports Patna Press.

The scheme, introduced by the Sugarcane Industry Department, is designed to bring modern machinery into sugarcane farming. It aims to reduce cultivation costs, boost productivity, and improve sugar recovery. The government has earmarked Rs 10 crore to support the initiative.

On Tuesday, special camps were held at all operational sugar mills across the state to raise awareness about the scheme. Officials assisted farmers with the online application process and provided technical guidance. The turnout was strong, indicating increasing awareness and confidence among sugarcane growers.

Under the scheme, farmers can seek subsidies for up to three machines from a list of 33 types, which includes tools for both field preparation and harvesting. Applications can be submitted through the official websites, sugarcanemech.bihar.gov.in and ccs.bihar.gov.in. Beneficiaries will be selected through an online lottery, and successful applicants will receive approval letters digitally. They will then have 14 days to purchase the equipment from approved vendors, paying only the balance after the subsidy is applied.

Among the participating sugar mills, Hasanpur received the highest number of applications at 160. It was followed by Majhaulia with 144, Sugauli with 140, Sidhavaliya with 139, and Vishnu with 103.
