Uttar Pradesh: Baghpat sugar mill set to undergo Rs 688 crore expansion

Bagphat, (Uttar Pradesh): Uttar Pradesh’s Sugar Industry & Cane Development Minister, Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary, announced on Saturday that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for expanding the Baghpat sugar mill is currently being prepared. The mill is set to undergo a Rs 688 crore expansion, which will include the establishment of an ethanol plant.

Currently, Baghpat sugar mill has crushing capacity of 2,500 TCD and it will be extended to 5,000 TCD.

The announcement came during a farmers’ meeting organized at the Baghpat Sugar Mill, where several public representatives were present. Minister Chaudhary highlighted that 90% of pending payments to sugarcane farmers across the state have been cleared, and action is being taken against mills that have failed to settle dues. “RRC are being issued against those mills,” he added.

Local MLA Yogesh Dhama, Minister KP Malik, and former MLA Sahab Singh, who have consistently raised the issue of mill expansion, also attended the event.

Minister Chaudhary also issued a warning to the Malakpur sugar mill for failing to pay cane dues on time. He said that if the mill does not clear the payments, its procurement centers may be handed over to other mills with the consent of farmers. “Our goal is to empower farmers and ensure they don’t face any difficulty. The government is committed to doubling their income,” he said.
