Domestic Market
Domestic sugar prices rose on lower monthly quota

Domestic sugar prices have reported to be higher by Rs 20-40 per quintal across major markets on lower monthly quota release. As demand is said to be good ahead of the festive season, lower release of monthly quota fuelled the rally in the spot markets.

The Food Ministry has released the quota for the month of August. As per the notification, quota is at 22.5 lakh tons, higher by 0.5 lakh tons compared to the same month previous season and last month. As the festive season is ahead, less release has led to rise in domestic sugar prices. And no extension of the July quota is reported.

In terms of pricing, M-grade sugar is currently selling between Rs 3,940 and Rs 4,000 per quintal in Muzaffarnagar, while S-grade sugar costs range from Rs 3,790 to Rs 3,820 in Kolhapur.
