Biofuel growth: Bihar aims to boost green energy and farmer income

Patna: The Bihar Department of Industries on Tuesday organised the ‘Bihar Biofuel Dialogues 2025’ at a city hotel, officially launching the Biofuel Production Promotion (Amended) Policy 2025. The event marked a key step in the state’s push toward sustainable energy and economic growth, reported The Times of India.

Speaking at the launch, State Industries Minister Nitish Mishra said the new policy is designed to support innovation, attract investment, and encourage new business opportunities. “This policy shows Bihar’s strong commitment to green energy and also creates fresh opportunities for farmers. The state is on track to become a major centre for biofuel production. It is a major contribution to the Prime Minister’s goal of a developed India,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary highlighted the role of compressed biogas (CBG) as a clean and practical energy option. “This is the right time to turn waste into wealth. The policy will bring economic, environmental, and social benefits to Bihar. It lays the groundwork for a greener future,” he said.

Earlier, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) Mihir Kumar Singh spoke about Bihar’s potential in biofuel production, especially CBG. He said the revised policy provides clear support and incentives to investors. “Producing CBG will promote clean energy while also helping farmers, entrepreneurs, and the environment,” he said.

Officials shared that there are currently 12 ethanol production units running in Bihar, with a combined production capacity of 1,617.5 kilolitres per day. The amended policy aims to build on this base, inviting further investment and expansion in the biofuel sector.
