The opposition has urged the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the recent sugar scandal, citing widespread corruption and alleged misuse of public resources.
Speaking to the media outside Parliament House, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser called for an impartial and independent inquiry into what he described as major financial irregularities in the sugar industry.
Qaiser alleged that large-scale corruption had taken place and stressed the need for urgent action against those responsible for misappropriating public funds. “Whether they are bureaucrats or others involved, everyone who contributed to the loss of national resources must be held accountable,” he said.
He also criticised the legal proceedings and verdicts against opposition leaders, claiming they reflected a lack of adherence to justice. Qaiser questioned the government’s motives, suggesting that its overall direction for the country remained uncertain.
He further stated that opposition figures were being deliberately targeted, while other members of the National Assembly were also facing pressure.
Referring to Omar Ayub’s legal status, Qaiser noted that Ayub had obtained a stay order from the court and continued to serve as the officially recognised Leader of the Opposition.
Reaffirming the opposition’s stance, Qaiser said their movement could not be suppressed and vowed to continue the struggle without retreat.
He concluded by reiterating the opposition’s demand for a transparent investigation into the sugar scandal, conducted under the oversight of a judicial commission.
