Amroha: Floods affect sugarcane grown on over 5,000 hectares of land

Amroha: Flood has affected the sugarcane grown over 5,000 hectares of land. On the instructions of the Additional Chief Secretary of the State Sugar Industry and Cane Development Department, the District Cane Officer (DCO) inspected flood-hit villages near the Ganga River in the Chandanpur and Gajraula regions under the Cane Development Council and local sugar mills, reported Live Hindustan.

Teams comprising departmental and sugar mill officials toured the affected villages by boat. The DCO said that around 5,000 hectares of sugarcane fields are currently affected by flooding, with water levels reaching four to five feet in most areas, causing hardship to farmers. Farmers have been advised to remain cautious in the flood situation.

In areas where waterlogging in sugarcane fields is less severe, farmers have been advised to carry out timely tying of the crop with assistance from sugar mills. The Cane Development Department has also set up a control room for flood-affected cane farmers and issued a helpline number — 7078577200. Sugarcane Development Inspectors, secretaries, and mill staff are also involved in providing assistance.

Officials urged farmers to stay calm and avoid unnecessary visits to their fields. The DCO noted that so far, there has been no major damage to the sugarcane crop and its condition remains good. The administration is maintaining constant monitoring to prevent any emergency situations. Relevant departments have been alerted to remain prepared for relief and rescue operations.
