Phagwara: The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Doaba has confirmed it will take part in the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) protest at Kukarpind village in Jalandhar on August 20, bringing 5,000 members along with tractors and trailers. The BKU will also hold a motorcycle rally from Bhullarai village on August 11 against the Punjab Government’s land pooling policy, reported The Tribune.
The announcements came during a state-level meeting of BKU Doaba at Gurdwara Sukhchaina Sahib in Phagwara on Thursday evening. The meeting, led by state president Manjit Singh Rai and state general secretary Satnam Singh Sahni, also discussed the non-payment of Rs 35 crore in dues from the Golden Sandhar Sugar Mill in Phagwara.
The union warned that if the pending amount was not cleared soon, it would launch a fresh statewide agitation.
Speaking after the meeting, Rai said the August 20 protest was expected to draw over one lakh farmers from across Punjab. “Our 5,000 members will be there with tractors and trailers to stand against this policy, which we believe is unfair to farmers,” he said.
On the motorcycle rally, Rai explained: “We will start at 11 am from Bhullarai village, a site marked under the land pooling scheme, and ride through Phagwara city. This is both a show of opposition and a way to spread awareness among people.”
