Farmers in Rahatna village resolve to boycott sugar mills defaulting on cane payments

Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh: Farmers in Rahatna village have expressed strong anger against sugar mills that have failed to clear outstanding cane payments. At a meeting held in the village, they decided not to supply sugarcane to mills that do not pay farmers on time, reports Live Hindustan.

Speaking at the meeting, farmer leader Pappu Mukhia said that the new crushing season is about to begin, yet several mills, including Malakpur, Kinauni and Bhainsana, have not cleared dues from the previous season. “Farmers are being forced to buy costly fertilisers and inputs, but without timely cane payments, it is becoming difficult to even manage household expenses. Children’s education and other needs are also being affected,” he said.

He further added that the prices paid to farmers for their cane remain far below the cost of cultivation, leaving them burdened.

The farmers unanimously resolved that this year they will supply cane only to those mills that ensure timely payment.

Among those present at the meeting were Vedpal, Mahak Singh, Dinesh Kumar, Rammehar, Ravindra, Bittu, Lokendra and Krishanpal.
