GAIL adds record PNG connections and CNG stations in FY25, posts highest-ever profit says Chairman in AGM

State-owned natural gas company GAIL (India) Ltd delivered a strong performance in FY25, achieving record operational milestones and its highest-ever annual profits, according to the company’s Chairman at its 41st Annual General Meeting held on Friday.

GAIL and its subsidiaries continue to dominate India’s City Gas Distribution (CGD) space, holding the largest presence nationwide. The company holds authorization to develop CGD infrastructure in 72 out of the 307 Geographical Areas (GAs) across the country.

During the financial year, GAIL and its group companies added approximately 12.28 lakh new PNG (piped natural gas) connections and commissioned around 507 new CNG (compressed natural gas) stations. This expansion brought the company’s cumulative base to nearly 95.7 lakh domestic PNG consumers and over 3,100 CNG stations across India.

GAIL’s CGD entities reported combined sales of CNG and domestic PNG at about 15.4 million metric standard cubic metres (MMSCM), securing a market share exceeding 54% in this segment.

FY25 also marked a milestone in LNG operations, with GAIL importing a record 141 cargoes — the highest ever in its history. To meet increased power demand during the summer, the company sourced five spot LNG cargoes and supplied approximately 112 MMSCMD of regasified LNG (RLNG) between April and June 2024 to enhance gas-based power generation.

On the financial front, GAIL posted its highest-ever profit before tax (PBT) and profit after tax (PAT) in FY25. PBT rose by 28% to ₹14,825 crore, up from ₹11,555 crore in FY24. PAT also increased by 28% to ₹11,312 crore compared to ₹8,836 crore in the previous year. Revenue from operations climbed to ₹1,37,288 crore, up from ₹1,30,638 crore, while the company executed capital expenditure of ₹10,512 crore during the year.

In infrastructure development, GAIL continued to expand the National Gas Grid. The company operates a pipeline network spanning about 16,421 km. In FY25, it commissioned 277 km of new pipelines and carried out lowering works over 717 km.

GAIL also advanced its LNG shipping capacity by adding a new state-of-the-art vessel to its fleet. The ship, named GAIL Sagar, was delivered in February 2025 at Cove Point, USA. It is under a long-term charter with Kool Panther Corporation, a subsidiary of Cool Company (UK), and marks GAIL’s fifth LNG carrier. The charter extends until December 2038, making it the longest in the company’s history.

Additionally, the company awarded a long-term vessel charter contract to a subsidiary of K-Line, Tokyo, for LNG deployment between 2027 and 2038.
