Assam CM reviews preparations for PM Modi’s visit to Numaligarh for bamboo-based ethanol plant inauguration

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday visited Golaghat district to review preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Numaligarh, scheduled for September 14.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the newly constructed bamboo-based ethanol plant at Numaligarh. The Chief Minister inspected the venue for the public meeting, located at the Tanker Stand within the Numaligarh Refinery campus, and assessed various logistical arrangements.

To ensure the smooth execution of the Prime Minister’s programme, Sarma also chaired a review meeting with Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, MLAs, senior officials of the district administration, and other key stakeholders involved in the preparations.

Prime Minister Modi is expected to address a massive public rally at the Numaligarh Tanker Stand, with an estimated turnout of over one lakh people. The Chief Minister instructed officials to make comprehensive arrangements, including adequate drinking water, vehicle parking, sanitation, and first-aid services for attendees.

He also directed the police and district administration to take necessary steps to manage traffic effectively and prevent congestion around the venue during the event.

According to Sarma, the bamboo-based ethanol plant has been built at an estimated cost of ₹5,000 crore. In addition to the plant’s inauguration, the Prime Minister will launch development projects worth over ₹18,000 crore from Numaligarh and Mangaldai on the same day — a move seen as a major push toward Assam’s socio-economic transformation.

As a symbolic gesture to welcome the Prime Minister, Chief Minister Sarma planted a neem sapling along the Letekujan–Tanker Stand road. The initiative is part of a broader plantation drive dubbed the “PM Neem Corridor”.

“A special welcome for a special person. To honour Adarniya @narendramodi ji’s visit to Assam next week, we are planting neem trees along the 2.2 km stretch leading to Numaligarh as the ‘PM Neem Corridor’,” Sarma posted on X.
