Hapur, Uttar Pradesh: In a move providing some relief during the festive season, farmers associated with the Simbhaoli and Brajnatpur sugar mills have received a payment of ₹8.22 crore, reports Amar Ujala.
The payment comes against the backdrop of significant outstanding dues. While farmers had completed their sugarcane supply to the district’s mills by March 2025, they had not received their payments. A team of the Insolvency Resolution Professional (IRP) claimed that the payment of Rs. 8.22 crore was made to the farmers on Wednesday. Of this total, Simbhauli Sugar Mill paid Rs. 6.18 crore, and Brajnatpur Sugar Mill disbursed Rs. 2.04 crore.
This payment is expected to offer some respite to the farmers. However, a substantial liability of over Rs. 150 crore remains pending with the mills. Clearing this entire amount before the new crushing season, which is anticipated to begin in the first week of November, appears to be a challenging task.
IRP Anurag Goyal stated that payments to farmers are being made continuously. He confirmed that Rs. 8.22 crore has been transferred to their accounts and assured that the remaining balance would be settled soon.
