Andhra Pradesh: Farmers urge MLC Nagababu to restart Chodavaram sugar mill

Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh: In a meeting with sugarcane growers, Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council member K. Nagababu has assured sugarcane farmers that he will work to restore the former glory of the Chodavaram sugar factory, reports Hans India.

Nagababu interacted with farmers at the Jana Sena Party office in Bheemili on Tuesday, where they shared their grievances and sought his help in resolving them.

The farmers said that in the past, they cultivated sugarcane over thousands of acres and earned good profits. However, they are now facing losses and are unable to even recover their investment costs. Many of them have fallen into debt as they are not receiving fair prices for their crops. They said that reviving the Chodavaram sugar factory would benefit thousands of farmers in the region.

The farmers also urged that the Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) be linked to agriculture to support sugarcane growers. Additionally, they requested financial assistance for cooperative societies through the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).

Responding to their concerns, Nagababu assured that he would bring the issues to the attention of Deputy Chief Minister and Panchayat Raj Minister K. Pawan Kalyan.

Later, the farmers submitted a memorandum to Nagababu. Chodavaram Constituency In-charge P.V.S.N. Raju, Bheemunipatnam Constituency In-charge Panchakarla Sandeep, AMC Chairman Allam Rama Apparao, and several farmers were present.
