Ethanol plants influencing Bihar’s economy: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan

Patna (Bihar): Hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving a new impetus to Bihar’s rural economy and Nitish government for improving law and order in the state, Union Minister and BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday said the NDA will once again “achieve a landslide victory” in the assembly polls.

Pradhan, the BJP’s Bihar election in-charge, credited the central government’s initiatives, including the Makhana Board and ethanol policy, for boosting Bihar’s rural economy and industrialisation.

In an interview with ANI, Dharmendra Pradhan said, “… By establishing systems like the Makhana Board, the Prime Minister has given a new impetus to Bihar’s rural economy. The Bihar government has implemented the Government of India’s ethanol policy. New types of industrialisation have begun in Bihar. The ethanol factory is influencing Bihar’s economy today. Skilled young people from Bihar are returning to Bihar. Law and order is improving in Bihar….”

“For the past 20 years, the people of Bihar have consistently blessed the NDA. This time too, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar’s popular Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the NDA will once again achieve a landslide victory…,” he said.

The OMCs have allocated around 1048 crore liters of ethanol against 1776 crore liters of offers submitted by manufacturers across the country for Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2025-26 – Cycle 1. OMCs had invited tenders for the supply of 1050 crore liters of ethanol for ESY 2025-26.

In the given allocation, maize holds the largest share at 45.68 percent (around 478.9 crore liters), followed by FCI rice at 22.25 percent (around 233.3 crore litres), sugarcane juice at 15.82 percent (around 165.9 crore liters), B Heavy Molasses at 10.54 percent (around 110.5 crore liters), damaged food grains at 4.54 percent (around 47.6 crore liters), and C Heavy Molasses at 1.16 percent (around 12.2 crore liters).

During the ongoing ESY 2024–25, OMCs have received a total of 904.84 crore litres of ethanol from November to September. The total contracted quantity was 1131.70 crore litres. Of this, 598.14 crore litres of ethanol have been sourced from grains, while sugar-based feedstocks have contributed 306.70 crore litres.
