The 2025–26 sugarcane crushing season has begun at the Majhaulia sugar mill in West Champaran, Bihar. This year, the mill has set a target of crushing 60 lakh quintals of sugarcane. On Tuesday, in the presence of hundreds of farmers, the mill’s Chief General Manager (CGM) Udayveer Singh performed the traditional donga pujan to mark the start of the season. As part of the rituals, offerings were also made at the Baital Baba temple premises for the bullock cart scale, trolley, and weighing system, reports Zee News.
The CGM said the mill has set a higher target this year because its crushing capacity has been expanded. He assured that cane supply slips will be distributed to farmers on time and every effort will be made to ensure they do not face any difficulties. He also said the mill will strive to avoid any delay in payments.
Appealing to farmers to support the smooth functioning of the season, the CGM urged them to send their cane on schedule. This year, 36 procurement centres have been set up, and the crushing capacity has been increased by 10,000 quintals. He added that the mill will collect cane from small farmers within 45 days and ensure timely payment.
The start of the crushing season has brought a sense of relief and happiness among farmers. Sugarcane is considered a key cash crop in West Champaran. Farmers Vinay Kumar, Shambhu Singh and Tunna Singh said the mill has prepared a slip distribution calendar this time, ensuring timely supply of slips to all growers. The management has also promised timely payments this season.
