Karnataka government to provide financial assistance of Rs 300 crore to sugarcane farmers

Belgavi: The State government on Tuesday sought approval from the Legislative Assembly for a supplementary budget of ₹6,280 crore to cover additional spending requirements across various departments.

Of the above amount, ₹300 crore has been set aside to provide financial assistance to sugarcane farmers at ₹50 per quintal for cane supplied to sugar factories in Karnataka, reports The Times of India.

Of the total amount, ₹2,240 crore is expected to come from Central assistance, while the State government will fund ₹3,421 crore. The remaining amount will be drawn from reserve funds. A large share of the additional allocation has been proposed for road development works and financial support for sugarcane farmers.

The government has also proposed compensating boards and corporations that together spent about ₹350 crore on the social and educational survey, commonly referred to as the caste survey. The D. Devaraj Urs Welfare Corporation accounted for the highest expenditure at ₹150 crore, followed by the Lingayat and Vokkaliga Development Corporations, which spent ₹70 crore each.
