Sugarcane crushing for Maharashtra’s 2025–26 season has picked up pace, with operations expanding steadily across the state. As per the latest data from the Sugar Commissionerate, 184 sugar mills started sugarcane crushing as of December 21, 2025.
So far, mills in the state have crushed 446.04 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugarcane, producing 380.21 lakh quintals of sugar. The average sugar recovery rate currently stands at 8.52%.
Of the 191 mills that are actively crushing, 95 belong to the cooperative sector and 96 are privately owned. The Kolhapur division continues to outperform other regions in both sugar output and recovery rates.
Kolhapur: A total of 37 mills are operational, crushing 98.79 LMT of cane and achieving the state’s highest recovery rate of 10%. The division has produced 98.77 lakh quintals of sugar.
Pune: The Pune division has 30 operational mills. They have crushed 109.34 LMT of cane with a recovery rate of 8.78%, resulting in 96.02 lakh quintals of sugar.
Solapur: Despite having the largest number of active mills at 43, Solapur has crushed 94.63 LMT of cane, recording a recovery rate of 7.67%.
By this date in the previous season, 194 mills had begun operations, crushing 268.67 LMT of cane with a recovery rate of 8.29%.
