Baghpat (Uttar Pradesh): Veena Kumari Meena, Additional Chief Secretary of the Sugar Industry, Cane Development and Excise Department, on Thursday inspected the Baghpat and Ramala cooperative sugar mills, officials said, reports Live Hindustan.
Following the site inspection, officials said the process for expanding the Baghpat cooperative sugar mill is expected to gather momentum. A detailed project report (DPR) for the expansion has already been prepared and is likely to be placed before the state cabinet at an upcoming meeting.
The state government has drawn up a DPR worth Rs 688 crore for the expansion of the Baghpat cooperative sugar mill. Once the project is completed, the mill’s cane crushing capacity is expected to double from 25,000 quintals to 50,000 quintals per day.
Deputy chairman of the mill, Krishnapal Singh, said the inspection was carried out to assess preparations for increasing the mill’s capacity. During the visit, the Additional Chief Secretary reviewed the crushing system, cane supply arrangements, payment mechanism and technical operations in detail.
Officials said the expansion plan also includes setting up an ethanol plant at the mill. The project is expected to benefit farmers and create additional employment opportunities in the district. The target is to complete the entire project before 2027.
District Magistrate Asmita Lal, District Cane Officer Amar Pratap Singh and other officials were present during the inspection.
Krishnapal Singh said the Rs 688 crore DPR also provides for a 90 kilolitre ethanol plant. He said the proposal is expected to be taken up at an upcoming cabinet meeting and expressed confidence that it would be approved, allowing the expansion work to move ahead. He added that the project would benefit thousands of farmers in the region.
