Bihar: Five-day training on climate-smart sugarcane farming held for Farmers

Karnal: A five-day training programme on climate-smart sugarcane farming has been organised by the regional centre of the Sugarcane Breeding Institute. Forty progressive sugarcane farmers from Bihar are taking part in the programme, reports Amar Ujala.

During the training, farmers are being given detailed information on climate-resilient sugarcane varieties, water conservation methods, production of healthy seed material, balanced use of nutrients, and the scope of sugarcane cultivation in saline and alkaline soils. Sessions are also focusing on scientific farm management practices for sugarcane. In addition, participants are being shown practical demonstrations of new techniques developed by the institute.

The programme has been organised with the aim of making sugarcane cultivation sustainable, profitable, and environmentally friendly in the face of changing climate conditions.

The training programme is being led by Course Director Dr M.R. Meena, with Dr Ravindra Kumar and Dr Pooja serving as co-directors. Overall guidance for the programme is being provided by Institute Head Dr M.L. Chhabra.

Officials said the main objective of the programme is to connect progressive farmers with scientific and climate-smart farming methods to improve productivity, quality, and long-term sustainability of sugarcane cultivation. The initiative also aims to increase farmers’ income while ensuring conservation of natural resources.
