Sugarcane crushing in Maharashtra for the 2025–26 season is progressing steadily, with operations gaining momentum across the state. Data released by the Sugar Commissionerate show that a total of 199 sugar mills engaged in crushing operations as of January 22, 2026.
So far, these mills have crushed 766.28 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugarcane, yielding 697.3 lakh quintals of sugar. The average sugar recovery rate currently stands at 9.1%.
Among the 199 operational mills, 98 are part of the cooperative sector, while 101 are privately owned. The Kolhapur division continues to lead in both sugar output and recovery rates.
Kolhapur: All 37 mills in the division are operational, crushing 165.93 LMT of cane and achieving the state’s highest recovery rate of 10.68%, producing 177.21 lakh quintals of sugar.
Pune: The Pune division has 30 mills in operation, which have crushed 176.92 LMT of cane at a recovery rate of 9.37%, resulting in 165.81 lakh quintals of sugar.
Solapur: With the largest number of active mills at 47, Solapur has crushed 164.77 LMT of cane, recording a recovery rate of 8.22%.
By the same date in the previous season, 199 mills had begun operations, crushing 554.92 LMT of cane with an average recovery rate of 8.92%.
