Karachi: The Ministry of Commerce has forwarded a complaint to the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) over the alleged misappropriation of 5,356 metric tonnes of sugar procured by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), naming the owners of a local sugar mill. The matter was also taken up by the Public Accounts Committee, which referred it to NAB for investigation, Business Recorder reported.
Following the complaint, NAB Karachi initiated an inquiry under the provisions of the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 1999 into allegations of sugar embezzlement. Investigators determined that the accused caused an estimated loss of Rs. 959.758 million to the national exchequer. The inquiry was later upgraded to a formal investigation, after which NAB Karachi filed Reference No. 02/2026 against the accused in the Accountability Court in Sindh, Karachi, on February 4, 2026.
