Sugarcane crushing in Maharashtra for the 2025–26 season is progressing steadily, with operations gained momentum across the state. As per the latest figures released by the Commissionerate, sugar production in the state reached 825.59 lakh quintals as of February 5, 2026.
199 mills have so far crushed 888.8 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugarcane, yielding 825.59 lakh quintals of sugar. The average sugar recovery rate currently stands at 9.29%.
Among the 199 operational mills, 98 are part of the cooperative sector, while 101 are privately owned. The Kolhapur division continues to lead in both sugar output and recovery rates.
Kolhapur: All 37 mills in the division are operational, crushing 190 LMT of cane and achieving the state’s highest recovery rate of 10.85%, producing 206.21 lakh quintals of sugar.
Pune: The Pune division has 30 mills in operation, which have crushed 199.52 LMT of cane at a recovery rate of 9.61%, resulting in 191.67 lakh quintals of sugar.
Solapur: With the largest number of active mills at 47, Solapur has crushed 192.86 LMT of cane, recording a recovery rate of 8.85%.
By the same date in the previous season, 199 mills had begun operations, crushing 673.66 LMT of cane with an average recovery rate of 9.12%.
