Maharashtra sugar output crosses 82 lakh tonnes, surpasses last season’s 81 lakh tonnes

Sugar production in Maharashtra crossed 82 lakh tonnes on February 5, which is higher than the total sugar production reported in the state during the last crushing season. Sugar output in Maharashtra was reported at 81.04 lakh tonnes during the last season.

All 199 sugar mills are busy with crushing operations. Among them, a few sugar mills will begin to end crushing operations by mid-February.

As per the crushing report released by the Commissionerate, sugar production in the state was reported at 82.55 lakh tonnes as of February 5, 2026. A total of 199 mills are operating in the state, and they have so far crushed 888.8 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugarcane, with the average sugar recovery rate at 9.29%.

Among the 199 operational mills, 98 are part of the cooperative sector, while 101 are privately owned.

In the previous season, as of February 5, 199 sugar mills were in operation, and they had produced 61.45 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 673.66 LMT of cane, with an average recovery rate of 9.12%.

During the last crushing season, sugar mills in the state had crushed 850 lakh tonnes of sugarcane, with an average recovery rate of 9.5%. The duration of the crushing season was 90 days. However, sugar mills in the state had produced 110 lakh tonnes of sugar during the 2023–24 season.
