India has been named the Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s leading trade fair for organic products, scheduled to take place from February 10 to 13 in Nuremberg, Germany, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a press release.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the ministry, is coordinating India’s participation with a strong presence aimed at showcasing the country’s agricultural legacy and its role as a major global supplier of organic products.
BIOFACH Germany is regarded as the largest exhibition dedicated exclusively to organic food and agriculture. APEDA has participated in the event for more than a decade and has maintained consistent visibility at the fair.
India’s participation this year represents a notable expansion compared with previous editions, reflecting the steady growth of the country’s organic exports, rising global demand, and increased involvement from exporters, associations, and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). After 14 years, India’s organic farming sector is set to receive special focus at the event.
APEDA has set up the India Country Pavilion covering 1,074 square metres and featuring 67 co-exhibitors. Participants include organic product exporters, FPOs, cooperatives, organic laboratories, state government bodies, and commodity boards. The pavilion will present a wide range of products such as rice, oilseeds, herbs, spices, pulses, cashew, ginger, turmeric, large cardamom, cinnamon, mango puree, and essential oils.
Exhibitors from more than 20 states and Union territories are part of the pavilion, highlighting India’s agricultural diversity. These include Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand. The participation underscores the country’s expanding engagement in global organic trade and the growing range of region-specific and value-added products.
Visitors to the pavilion will also be offered curated food tastings featuring Indian organic flavours. Live sampling of biryani prepared with premium organic basmati rice and spices will be organised, along with servings of five geographical indication (GI)-tagged rice varieties—Indrayani, Navara, Gobindbhog, red rice, and Chak Hao (black rice)—to highlight India’s traditional rice heritage.
APEDA has also launched extensive branding and promotional activities across key locations within the Nuremberg Messe Exhibition Centre to mark India’s recognition as Country of the Year.
With global interest increasingly shifting toward sustainability and environmentally responsible lifestyles, India’s featured participation at BIOFACH 2026 reinforces its standing in organic agriculture. The country remains focused on supplying high-quality organic products that meet international standards.
APEDA said it will continue supporting exporters through targeted initiatives designed to improve global competitiveness and strengthen India’s position in the international organic food market.
