Beed: Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar on Thursday approved the construction of 11 hostels for children of sugarcane cutters at a total cost of Rs 159.4 crore, The Times of India reported.
She chaired her first meeting of the District Planning and Development Council for Beed as the district’s guardian minister, attending virtually from Mumbai.
The Social Justice Department had previously sanctioned 22 hostels in Beed under the Sant Bhagwanbaba Government Hostel scheme for children of migrant sugarcane workers. During the meeting, Sunetra Pawar approved funding for 11 of these hostels, which will be constructed in Patoda, Kaij, Parli, Georai, Majalgaon, and Beed district headquarters.
In an official statement, she said, “Late Deputy CM Ajit Pawar wanted the sons and daughters of sugarcane workers to have access to education and mainstream opportunities. He actively pursued this initiative when he was the guardian minister of Beed and instructed the Public Works Department to design these hostels on the lines of the ‘SARTHI’ hostels being built for Maratha community students.”
