Mandya: Chaos erupted at the general body meeting of MySugar, held on Wednesday after a gap of 10 years, as farmers and shareholders clashed over attendance and communication issues, Deccan Herald reported.
The meeting took place under tight police security, with personnel checking attendees at the entrance. Some shareholders were denied entry due to technical issues, sparking anger among those affected.
During the presentation of the annual report for 2015-16, farmer leader Sunanda Jayaram criticised the factory president, CD Gangadhar, saying, “There was no proper information about the meeting. Why were shareholders not invited? Police were deployed to prevent them from attending.”
Gangadhar responded that invitations had been sent to shareholders’ postal addresses, but about 50% were returned, with some shareholders living abroad. He assured that a detailed list of shareholders at the hobli and panchayat level would be prepared and that general body meetings would be held quarterly in the future. He added that clearing the audit file is crucial, warning that if it is not completed by 2025, members may not receive benefits.
The annual report for 2016-17 was also presented during the meeting, with Managing Director Mangaldas and Secretary Prasanna Bedi in attendance.
