Mirzapur: Rajya Sabha MP Arun Singh inaugurated a new ethanol plant in Semariha village of Haliya block in Mirzapur on Tuesday night, a project expected to generate employment and provide better market support to local paddy and maize farmers, ETV Bharat reported.
The Brajdev Ethanol Private Limited plant is located about 50 kilometres from the Mirzapur district headquarters, in an area considered economically backward.
Addressing reporters, Singh said the plant would generate jobs for around 1,000 people. He said it had long been his wish to see such an industry set up in Mirzapur and described the inauguration as the fulfilment of that vision. He added that the establishment of a factory often leads to further development in surrounding areas. Referring to the state government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, he said efforts were being made to strengthen roads and infrastructure to support growth.
The plant is expected to benefit farmers cultivating paddy and maize in the region by providing a steady market for their produce. Managing Director Devesh Giri said the unit will consume about 500 tonnes of rice and maize daily. At present, rice is being supplied by the Food Corporation of India. The plant has the capacity to produce two lakh litres of ethanol per day.
The ethanol produced at the facility will be supplied to oil companies such as Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Indian Oil Corporation, and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.
The company employs around 150 technical staff and 200 non-technical workers, while about 500 people are engaged indirectly. Officials said around 70 to 80 vehicles operate daily in connection with the plant’s activities. The ethanol produced at the unit will be blended with petrol and diesel, contributing to the country’s cleaner fuel efforts.
