Chandigarh: The Government of Haryana is encouraging farmers to adopt improved planting methods to increase sugarcane production in the state, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana said during the ongoing Budget Session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha, 5dariyanews reported.
Replying to a question raised by a member in the Assembly, the minister said farmers are being encouraged to plant sugarcane using the single-bud method, which helps improve productivity. At present, farmers receive a subsidy of Rs 3,000 per acre for adopting this technique.
He said the state government has proposed to increase the subsidy to Rs 5,000 per acre in the Budget for the financial year 2026–27.
Rana also said the government is providing healthy and disease-free sugarcane seed to farmers, with a subsidy of Rs 5,000 per acre. In addition, the Budget proposal includes providing sugarcane seedlings free of cost to farmers who adopt the tissue culture method for cultivation.
The minister added that cooperative sugar mills will also provide sugarcane harvesters to farmers to help reduce the cost of harvesting.
