Sugar imports to Georgia increased in January 2026, reaching 7,320 tonnes worth $4.1 million, compared with 5,893 tonnes worth $3.6 million during the same month last year. The figures show an increase in both quantity and value, although the average import price fell by about 10 percent, Business Media reported.
Most of the sugar imported in January came from Poland, followed by Belgium and Netherlands. In contrast, imports in January 2025 were mainly from France, with supplies also coming from Russia and Ukraine. This year, however, Georgia did not import sugar from Russia and only small quantities arrived from Ukraine.
Data for the full year 2025 show that Georgia imported 145,503 tonnes of sugar worth $79.8 million, compared with 135,233 tonnes worth $87.6 million in 2024. Despite the rise in volume, the average import price declined by about 15 percent compared to the previous year. The main suppliers during 2025 were Brazil, France, Poland, Netherlands and Belgium.
Meanwhile, sugar exports from Georgia increased sharply. The country exported 6,980 tonnes worth $3.5 million in 2025, almost ten times higher than the volume exported in 2024.
Most of the exports were sent to Azerbaijan, while only small quantities were shipped to Armenia.
