Uttar Pradesh: CM intervention leads to resumption of sugarcane procurement, brings relief to farmers

Raebareli: A complaint by sugarcane farmers to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has led to quick action by officials, with procurement of cane resuming after being halted earlier this month, Live Hindustan reported.

The issue arose after a local cane purchase centre was shut on March 10, leaving large quantities of harvested and standing crop in the fields. Farmers raised the matter through the Rana Beni Madhav Baks Singh Memorial Committee, prompting intervention from the Chief Minister.

Following this, officials from the sugar mill and the cane department became active and arranged for the crop to be transported to a crusher unit in Sathgawan in Fatehpur district.

Around 1,400 quintals of sugarcane have been moved so far, with five truckloads reaching the crusher. The development has brought relief to farmers, many of whom had crops standing on nearly 30 bighas of land.

Farmers said the procurement resumed after officials coordinated with the crusher owner and arranged transport. Local officials also assisted in facilitating the process.

District cane officer Jagmohan Bhadauria said all remaining cane will be sent to the crusher. He added that some of the crop will be used as seed, and farmers providing cane for this purpose will receive an incentive of ₹25 per quintal.
