Brazil’s state-owned oil enterprise, Petrobras, has appointed Topsoe, a specialist in process technology, as the technical provider for its forthcoming sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility in Brazil.
Topsoe will provide its Hydroflex technology and services for Petrobras’ Boaventura Energy Complex located in Itaboraí, Rio de Janeiro.
Once it becomes operational, this facility is set to be among the largest SAF plants in Brazil. Petrobras said that the plant is expected to produce up to 16,000 barrels per day (bpd) of SAF and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) derived from 950,000 tonnes per year of plant-based feedstocks and animal fats.
Topsoe specialises in developing and supplying decarbonisation technologies, catalysts, and services aimed at facilitating the transition to sustainable energy sources.
The HydroFlex process transforms fats, oils, and greases into renewable jet fuel and diesel that can be utilised in both new installations and upgrades for either co-processing or fully renewable uses.
