Bilari, Uttar Pradesh: A board meeting of the Nagar-based Cooperative Sugarcane Development Committee was held on Tuesday afternoon in the chairman’s office, where key issues concerning local sugar mills were raised. The main focus of the discussion was the repeated delay by Karimanj Sugar Mill in sending indents during the crushing season, which affects the timely issuance of slips to farmers, reported Amar Ujala.
Committee director Anees Kumar Singh opened the meeting by highlighting how, during the operational period of the mill, the Karimanj unit routinely delays the dispatch of indents to the Bilari-based cane committee. This delay prevents farmers from receiving slips as per their needs, disrupting harvest schedules. Singh pointed out that similar complaints had been lodged in the past with officials of the Cane Department, but no corrective action had been taken by the mill management.
Other board members expressed frustration over delayed cane payments by Bilari Sugar Mill. The directors unanimously decided that if the Bilari mill fails to clear all outstanding dues by July, a proposal to reduce the area allocated to the mill will be presented during the committee’s annual general body meeting in August. This proposal will be based on the opinions of the sugarcane farmers.
The board also discussed various other problems faced by local farmers during the meeting. The session was chaired by Committee President Chaudhary Vijaypal Singh and conducted by Special Secretary R.K. Pathak.
Directors Raju Singh, Atar Singh, Yagyapal Singh, Amit Yadav, Annu Singh, Cane Council Inspector Sanjeev Kumar, Bilari Sugar Mill’s General Manager (Cane) Girish Kumar Singh, and Karimanj Sugar Mill’s Senior Cane Manager Anil Kumar were present for the meeting.
