Gaur, Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane cultivation in the vicinity of Babhnan sugar mill is being increased by 0.38% to 22,519.16 hectares this year as against 22,433.62 hectares last year, reported Amar Ujala.
The survey of sugarcane fields in the regions under the Cooperative Cane Development Committees of Gaur, Babhnan, and Vikramjot has been completed. The survey was conducted over a period of 56 days, from May 1 to June 25.
In the Gaur committee area, sugarcane is being cultivated over 4,369.29 hectares, up from 4,134.56 hectares last year—an increase of 234 hectares. However, in the Babhnan committee area, cultivation declined slightly to 12,899.46 hectares from last year’s 12,956.62 hectares—a drop of 58 hectares. The Vikramjot committee area also saw a decrease, with sugarcane covering 5,250.41 hectares this year, compared to 5,342.35 hectares last year, registering a drop of 92 hectares.
Among the three, the Gaur committee recorded the most growth in sugarcane cultivation, showing increased interest among farmers in that area. Across all three committees, a total of 49,755 farmers supply sugarcane. Babhnan has the highest number of farmers at 31,059, followed by Gaur with 9,746, and Vikramjot with 8,950.
Upendra Kumar Singh, Senior Cane Development Inspector at Babhnan, confirmed that the area under sugarcane has slightly decreased in the Babhnan and Vikramjot regions, while Gaur has recorded the most cultivation. He added that the process for ‘Satta Pradarshan’ (field-level plot verification) will begin soon.
To address survey discrepancies and support farmers, sugar mill and committee staff will conduct village-level Satta Pradarshan from July 20 to August 30. These sessions aim to resolve farmer complaints and ensure accurate field records.
Babhnan Sugar Mill’s Chief Cane Manager, Dinesh Rai, stated that during the 2024–25 crushing season, the mill procured 12.411 million quintals of sugarcane from farmers. The entire payment amounting to ₹45,227.80 lakh has already been credited to farmers’ bank accounts. He confirmed that the sugar mill currently has no pending dues towards cane farmers.
